What is the Functional Movement Assessment?

Discover a whole new way to unlock your body’s full potential with The My Vital Metrics Functional Movement Assessment! This comprehensive and quantified assessment protocol is designed to measure your functional strength, flexibility, and movement capabilities across all major joint complexes, ensuring that you stay ahead of the game when it comes to your physical health and well-being.

Our cutting-edge functional movement assessment will provide you with an in-depth analysis of your body’s current performance, identifying any areas that may need improvement. By pinpointing your strengths and weaknesses, we can help you develop a customized action plan featuring targeted exercises to enhance your flexibility, strength, and overall functional capabilities.
Using advanced technology we can not only indicate where the issue might be subjectively, but will identify the specific joint or muscle group which might be causing the movement to be impaired.

We will then be able to quantify imbalances, measure angles of movement, and give you all the figures and exercises you will need to improve.

Experience the difference that a truly tailored approach to physical health can make. Whether you’re an athlete looking to optimize your performance or simply someone seeking to improve your day-to-day movement capabilities, our functional movement assessment is the key to unlocking your body’s full potential.

What is the Testing Procedure?

The Functional Movement assessment will start with you holding a bar over your head, and coming down into a squat. This movement, called the ‘overhead squat’ uses a wide range of different movements, and by observing carefully from multiple angles, we can assess specific joints which warrant further investigation.

Then, while you warm up appropriately on our Wattbike, we will prepare the equipment for a specific battery of movement and strength tests that will help us to quantify the patterns we saw in the overhead squat assessment.

What Do I Get at the End of the Test?

Based on the data we get we will be able to give you guidance on how well you move, or what are your areas of strength, weakness, tightness or impairment across the following joint complexes:

  • Neck/Head
  • Shoulders
  • Thoracic Spine
  • Lumbar Spine
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Ankle

We will then give you up to 3 strength areas of focus and 3 flexibility areas of focus to work on.

Who is a Functional Movement Assessment For?

Our modern lifestyles put us at huge risk of patterns of tightness and weakness. This means that often people starting a new fitness routine may sometimes find that they get injured, trying to do movements their body is not capable of.

The movement screen will identify a selection of these, and so it is great for anyone starting a new fitness routine, or indeed, anyone who is conducting a fitness routine without having spent much thought in how well they are moving.

What equipment is used for the test?

We use a set of Forcedecks – these are high-precision pressure plates which can measure the force going through them. From jumping tests, to how much you move when standing on one leg, it can measure and quantify power output, force production, imbalances and much more.

We also use a Movement Dynamo. This equipment can measure pulling or pushing force, and also can measure how much it moves through space. We can measure for example that you can turn your head 80degrees to the left, but 92degrees to the right, thus an imbalance that might indicate tightness in the neck or upper back.

It can also measure Grip strength, which is one of the key metrics used to assess overall strength and function.

How Much Does a Functional Movement Assessment Cost?

We keep our pricing as easy to understand as possible. For a full schedule of prices for all tests/scans and memberships, please click here

Who Can Take a Functional Movement Assessment?

Anyone can take a functional movement assessment. We will ask you to declare any injuries or patterns of pain, so we can either test these, or avoid them.
