Blood Testing for Health & Fitness
Our on-the-spot glucose & cholesterol blood tests give you the most important blood measurements for your overall health. Get tested & walk out with the results.

What Blood Testing Do We Do?
My Vital Metrics offers on-the-spot glucose & cholesterol blood testing for health & fitness – these being two of the most important blood markers for your overall health. Our test allows you to book, get tested and walk out with the results straight away. We have selected these two tests to complement our existing scans and information, especially the DEXA Scan, RMR and FATMAX tests.
Get Dietary and Exercise Recommendations in Minutes
Once we have your results, we will go much further than a typical clinic or GP. With these tests we are then able to advise on dietary and exercise interventions which may be important in optimising your health and fitness plans. You can therefore purchase these as addons to our other tests, or purchase them independently. Both tests require just a fingerpick of blood, and take just a few minutes to get you the results.

What do the Blood Tests Show?
Glucose Testing
– HbA1c
HbA1C is a measure of your blood sugar levels (glucose) for the last 30 days. It is not just your current blood sugar level, but rather the imprint that high blood sugar might have left in your blood for the last 30 days. A high HbA1C indicates that you have had high levels of blood sugar regularly, and indicates that interventions may be required.
If the reading is very high, it might be an indicator that you have diabetes. A private glucose / HbA1C test can be used to test for Diabetes, but our focus for HbA1c however is seeing whether you might benefit from lowering your carbohydrates. We advise on the level to which this might be necessary.
The closer your reading comes to pre-diabetic or diabetic levels of HbA1c the lower we will set your carbohydrates. For very high levels we might suggest differing different eating patterns like time-restricted feeding.
This is a key blood test for health & fitness.
Of course, for any result which might indicate Diabetes we will ask you to return to your Doctor for further assessment and medical interventions
Cholesterol Tests
– Lipid Profile
Our cholesterol tests tell us your lipid profile – the amount and ratio of your body’s cholesterol. High cholesterol is one of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, so keeping cholesterol in check is really important to our overall health. Cholesterol is a complex metric though, as there are different types of cholesterol – and what’s important is the ratio of the HDL cholesterol (broadly speaking this is the ‘good’ cholesterol) and the LDL cholesterol (broadly speaking, this is ‘bad’ cholesterol).
After your private cholesterol test, our experts will be able to give you in-depth advice based on your results. For us, a higher cholesterol reading may mean that we suggest you limit your intake of saturated fats and stick to unsaturated sources of fats. Of course, if the cholesterol is very high we would absolutely suggest you go and see your doctor who will be able to assess your overall level of risk.
For higher levels of lipids, we may also suggest the inclusion of certain important foods in your diet. Some foods, like porridge and broccoli, have a form of fibre which is able to remove cholesterol from the body.
What is the Testing Procedure?
The procedure for the blood tests could not be more simple. We’ll ask you to sign a consent form and then take you over to our testing table.
We will put on our own protective equipment – gloves and a sterile sheet, and wipe your finger down with an alcohol swab.
We will remove the testing cartridge from it’s package, ready for use, and will use a lancet to prick the side of one finger. Using the collection tube from the cartridge, we will sample some of the blood, and put it into the analyser where it will start to process.
We will ask you to put your finger lightly over the puncture site while this is processing if you will be additionally having a second test.
Once the first test is complete, we will try to induce the same finger to bleed again, or if not we will use a second lancet for another finger. We will collect the second sample and start to process while we give you a cotton ball to hold over your punctures, and then will put a plaster on your finger, while we wait for the results.
What Information do you Get?
At the end of your blood test, we will give you a report showing your scores, and if there are any dietary or exercise interventions we would recommend in order to improve the scores. See an example report to the right.
If you have taken this as an add-on to a DEXA scan, or RMR, we will give the full macro breakdown including calories from each of the macronutrients.
How Much do Our Blood Tests Cost?
Each blood test costs £39 and tests for both glucose and cholesterol levels – the price is the same whether stand-alone or if added onto a DEXA or RMR.
